Biographical Sketch

Thomas J. Dygard was born August 20, 1931, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He began his career as a sportswriter in 1949, working for the Arkansas Gazette. In 1954 he took a job with the Associated Press, and went on to work in several of their bureaus, including those in Little Rock, Birmingham and New Orleans. He was also bureau chief in Tokyo, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Little Rock. He began writing sports novels for young adults as a hobby, and had his first one, Running Scared, published in 1977. He went on to publish a book every year until 1986. He retired from the Associated Press in 1993, but continued to write children's novels. He died in Hazelton PA on September 30, 1996.
