		<head altrender="history"><emph render="bold">Biographical
		  Sketch</emph></head> 
		<p> Walter de la Mare was born April 25, 1873 in Charlton, Kent, England,
		  and died June 22, 1956 in Twickenham, Middlesex, England. Through his mother he
		  was related to the poet Robert Browning. He was a poet and novelist who also
		  wrote under the pseudonym Walter Ramal. He was educated at the Choir school of
		  St. Paul's Cathedral in London In 1899 he married Constance Ingpen; the couple
		  had 4 children. His first book of poems, <emph render="italic">Songs of
		  Childhood,</emph> was published in 1902 under the name Walter Ramal; his first
		  novel, <emph render="italic">Henry Borcken,</emph> was published in 1904. He
		  was awarded honorary degrees by several universities, and was named Companion
		  of Honor by King George VI.</p>
