<p> Lois Ehlert was born November 9, 1934, in Beaver Dam, WI. She
graduated from the Layton School of Art in 1957 and received a B.F.A. from the
University of Wisconsin in 1959. She is known for her vibrant collage artwork
which features colored paper and found objects. Initially providing
illustrations for the books of others, Ehlert began writing her own material to
accompany her artwork in the mid-1980s. She has created books on subjects such
as birds, flowers, weather, work, retellings of folk tales, and the alphabet.
