J.H. Daugherty began corresponding with Dr. Irvin Kerlan in the
late 1940s, advising Kerlan on the merits of various editions of
his work. By 1950, donated Daugherty art was traveling
with other materials in the growing Kerlan collection, and Daugherty
began donating materials on a regular basis to expand the collection.
He remained a regular contributor even after Dr. Kerlan donated
his collection to the University of Minnesota.
