<p>Mitsumasa Anno was born March 20, 1926, in Tsuwano, Japan. In 1948, he
graduated from the Yamaguchi Teacher Training College and taught at elementary
schools for over a decade, all the while being a reputable artist in children's
literature. The lists of awards for Anno is lengthy, including
<emph render="italic">New York Times</emph> "Best Illustrated Books of the
Year" citation in 1970, 1975, and 1982, "Notable Book" citations, "Brooklyn Art
Books for Children" citations, and the Hans Christian Andersen Illustrator
Medal. Anno is widely crowned one of the most accomplished picture-book artists
of children's literature, incorporating his flare for mathematics and science
into visual trickery and illusions throughout his pieces. His appreciation of
diverse cultures also takes high precedence in a series of acclaimed "journey"
books, entailing his travels all around the world. Immortalizing over 30 works
of illustrations, Anno is a celebrated contributor to the world of children's
		  literature.</p>
