		  Sketch</emph></head> 
		<p>Lee J. Ames was born January 8, 1921 in New York City. He pursued
		  higher education at Columbia University and began illustrating children's books
		  in 1948. Ames throughout his lifetime has illustrated countless novels with
		  such authors as Jeannette Nolan, Harold McCracken, Alvin and Virginia
		  Silverstein. </p>

		<p>The Lee Ames Collection contains both written and illustrative
