Biographical Sketch

Marjorie Allen was born December 8, 1931, in Manchester, NH. After part-time attendance at State University of New York--Plattsburgh and Oswego and the University of Massachusetts, Allen's professional foray into children's literature came in 1976 when she was the instructor of continuing education in writing for children at the Berkshire Community College. Concurrently, Allen's first two books were published, The Remarkable Ride of Israel Bissel as Related by Molly the Cow and Are You for Real?, the latter co-written with her son, Carl. While Allen has composed over dozens of novels and periodicals for children, she also has read a library or two as a children's book reviewer. Through this opportunity she is able to generate story concepts in order to the fill the gap in current children's literature. Allen writes, "Now, because I'm a children's book reviewer, I get many books in the mail and can read to my heart's content. And because I am so familiar with what is being published, I know what still needs to be published. When I write my books, I try to fill that need."
