		<head altrender="history"><emph render="bold">Biographical
		  Sketch</emph></head> 
		<p>Born in the New York borough, Long Island, February 10, 1935, John
		  Alcorn is an illustrator of countless children's books, along with nonfiction,
		  poems, and non-English language readers. Alcorn studied graphic art at Cooper
		  Union, acquiring skills in calligraphy, architecture, typography, illustrations
		  and advertising and dimensional design. Briefly tied to the CBS-TV art
		  department in 1958 and other advertising agencies prior, Alcorn decided to
		  free-lance exclusively. His scope includes book illustrations, paperback covers
		  and periodical illustrations for <emph render="italic">McCall's</emph> and
		  <emph render="italic">Sports Illustrated</emph>.</p>
