Biographical Sketch

Shirley Rousseau Murphy was born May 20, 1928, in Oakland Calif. Her father was a horse trainer, and her mother an artist; both greatly influenced her career, first as an artist, and later as a writer. She began her career in the fine arts, but turned to writing in the 1960s. She soon turned to fantasy writing for children, producing the ERE series, and the Joe Grey mystery series, which features cat detectives who think and talk like humans. The has received numerous awards and honors, both for her fine arts work and for her writing. Biographical Sources: Something About the Author, vols. 36, 71, 126
