		  Sketch</emph></head> 
		<p>For almost twenty-five years Vera and Bill Cleaver wrote highly
		  acclaimed novels for children as a team. One developed the ideas and the other
		  did the writing. Their books depicted young people accepting responsibility and
		  problems beyond their years and dealing with the harsh realities of life. Vera
		  was born in South Dakota in 1919 and died in 1992; Bill died in 1981.</p>
