Anne Pellowski Papers, 1968-1990. Finding Aid.

Summary Information

Collection Number: CLRC0177

Collection Size: 6.03 linear ft. (Manuscript and other material), .38 cubic ft. (Illustrative materials)

Abstract/Notes: Anne Pellowski manuscript collection includes manuscripts for 11 titles, several in more than one edition. These titles include the "Four Farms" manuscripts as well as bibliographies and collections of children's literature, which Ms Pellowski compiled alone or with others, in conjunction with her work with the Information Center on Children's Cultures. The collection is arranged by title, with folder level control.

In 1959/60, Anne Pellowski became familiar with the Kerlan Collection when she corresponded with Dr. Kerlan from the International Youth Library in Munich. She cited the Kerlan Collection as a location for special collection materials in several of her bibliographies, and, in 1972, she began contributing her own manuscripts to the collection with Have You Seen a Comet? Several donations of books followed Comet, and in 1982, Ms Pellowski decided she wanted to place all her manuscripts in the same collection. Bibliographies, literature surveys and the first of the "Four Farms" manuscripts arrived that year, followed by more manuscripts as they became available.

Collection is non-circulating, in-house use only.

Biographical/Historical Notes

Anne Pellowski was born in Pine Creek Wisconsin, in 1933. She earned a B.A. from the College of St. Teresa in Winona MN and an M.S.L.S. with honors from Columbia University in 1959. After several jobs as a children's librarian and English instructor, she began working for the U.S. Committee for UNICEF as director of the Information Center on Children's Cultures. Her story telling books and her children's literature surveys stem from her career interests. In addition, her "Four Farms" series is based on her family's history of five generations of Polish American children on a Wisconsin farm.
